Flame
By Karah J., Schnecksville, PA Photo credit: Elizabeth H., Jordan, NY Author's comments about this article:What inspired me to write this was: my life resembles a candle light. Bright at times, then it completely turns around and I feel dark, sad, and abandoned. I hope whoever reads this will feel what I felt, and not judge, but understand. Thank you. I watch this flame pass
from match to wick,
gently stepping over
a great divide.
This flame and I
are not so different:
it comes into being from nothingness;
it eats and grows, smokes, and rests.
It gets angry,
destroys homes,
consumes flesh.
Sated, it becomes calm,
retreats into coals,
smoldering through the night.
Domesticated
by a piece of string,
it makes its home in a cave of wax.
It chases the shadows away
and stands watch through the night.
It sways
and dances in the darkness
before it is extinguished
in the blink
of an eye.

1-a teen is speaking.
2-
3-the tone is depressing
4-the mood is sad
5-my favorite part is when the writer talks about the house of wax.
6-I connect when it talks about how the light can go away in a blink of an eye.
7-it talks about how they feel in life
8-the poem was written because it explains how you can have a great idea and some person will make it sound stupid so you quit.
9-a thought i had was that it was well written
10-it represents how people will say you cant do anything and trying to fit it.
